Spiral enteroscopy involves inserting a tube with a rotating spiral overtube into the small intestine. The spiral mechanism allows for smooth and controlled advancement and withdrawal of the endoscope, enabling deeper access to the small bowel.
It is typically used when less invasive methods fail or when deeper access to the small intestine is required for diagnosis or treatment.
It is used for small bowel bleeding, tumors, Crohn’s disease, polyps, strictures, and foreign body removal.
Surgical spiral enteroscopy typically lasts 1–3 hours, depending on the complexity of the case.
Recovery involves short hospital observation, and most patients resume normal activities within a few days.
